The Fluency Five: Josh Dickerson

A core part of working here at Fluency is the opportunity to make a profound impact on virtually every aspect of our business—regardless of location. Spanning across 18 states—and counting—we’ve built quite the dynamic team and we want you to get to know them. That’s why we’ve created The Fluency Five, a five question blog series about what makes our employees special and what they love about working here.

Getting to know Josh Dickerson: Principal Software Engineer

1. What brought you to Fluency?: Several of my former colleagues had taken positions at Fluency and never failed to let me know how positive and exciting a place it was. When I started looking for a new company to call home, Fluency was a no-brainer. The more I learned about the culture, products, and problems in need of solutions, the more I realized that it was where I wanted to be. I’m surrounded by extremely hard-working and intelligent people, and I’m always excited to start my day.

2. What’s something interesting about what you do at Fluency? My focus is on making our systems more resilient and scalable. I get to spend a lot of my time in our infrastructure, our data lake, and our deployment pipeline, which I love.

3. In your opinion, what is the most interesting thing about Fluency?: For me, the most interesting thing about Fluency is the novel solution to the problem of ad automation. Coming from an ad-tech platform myself, I’ve seen how difficult it can be to provide a holistic solution that works across all ad platforms. Fluency’s Blueprints really hits a sweet-spot, and can be adapted to solve most or all of the problems you’d encounter in such an undertaking.

4. Can you tell us something personal about you?I love to fly-fish here in the beautiful Vermont creeks and streams. When I was in the military, I spent a good deal of time stick welding, something I’ve taken back up as a hobby. My wife is an amazing gardener, and I get to put my welding skills to work on creating trellises and sculptures for our gardens

5. What are you most looking forward to this year in your role and/or at the company? I’m really proud of what the team has built in our new Data Explorer tool. Fluency manages a wealth of data on behalf of our customers, and the Data Explorer provides a means for our customers to leverage their data in new and exciting ways in the platform.
